Caitlin Heppner is a PhD candidate in philosophy at the University of Ottawa in Canada and a Research Stream Lead at the Canadian Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Ethical Design Lab. Her co-authored work includes the “Critical Research into Tech” Toolkit for navigating the risks of critiquing Big Tech, a bioethics framework for the public testing of AI, and the development of design tools for ethically conscientious design. She is currently the project lead for the Micro Cities, Macro Problems project, exploring pressing ethics issues in automated navigation. This applied work is motivated by the intuition that nothing should be done simply because it has always been done.
