Biography

Talia Cameron is a PhD Candidate in Philosophy at the University of Ottawa specializing in environmental ethics. Her MA thesis, “Reconciliation with the Earth and Each Other: Intergenerational Environmental Justice in Canada,” highlights the need to recognize and support Indigenous knowledges and leadership in the field of environmental ethics as a matter of epistemic, environmental, and  . Since beginning her PhD program, Talia’s research interests have expanded to include en activism, care ethics, philosophy of mind, and AI ethics.

Talia recently completed two work terms with the federal government at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions where she participated in the development of an internal AI ethics program. Through this work experience, she had the opportunity to learn about the Canadian policy and legislative landscapes and the application of AI ethics principles in policy development. As a research assistant at CRAiEDL, she has contributed to the development of responsible AI policy forthe federal government in collaboration with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and other members of the CRAiEDL team.
