Corona-Warn-App

History and Context of Corona-Warn-App

Germany’s Corona-Warn-App was launched on June 16, 2020. It was built by SAP and Deutsche Telekom on the GAEN API. At the time of its launch, Germany was one of a handful of countries who committed to the GAEN API. Their quick uptake earned 14 million downloads in the first two weeks following its launch which represented close to 20% uptake. This rapid acceptance into the population caused the Corona-Warn-App to come to the forefront of ENACT app news when it was cited as a “working contact tracing app” .
