StopCovid was France’s official contact tracing app and has now rebranded to “TousAntiCovid” meaning “Everyone Against Covid”. France is using its own contact tracing prootcol aled ROBERT. The country chose not to go with GAEN technology. Interestingly, Prime Minister Jean Castex has yet to download the app himself despite being forced to isolate earlier this month after being in contact with someone diagnosed with a positive case. While the number of downloads is comparable to most countries, health authorities unfortunately report 700,000 uninstalls and less than 200 alerts. In early June, when the efficacy of apps around the globe was being questioned, the French Digital Minister, Cedric O, was quoted saying “The application is working well… we can detect most contacts that we should detect.” However, only 68 users had input a positive diagnosis and only 205 Bluetooth contacts had come from those 68 users (3 contacts per person). At the time, 14 exposure notifications were sent.
