Radar Covid App

History and Context of Radar Covid App

Spain built and tested RadarCOVID in July on the island of La Gomera. The pilot test claimed to be able to detect twice as many potential infections as human trackers using manual technique could. This pilot also indicated that the app can be useful at 20% uptake or higher. In mid-September, the government launched the app after navigating the complicated 17-region healthcare system in the country. The head of the State Digital and Artificial Intelligence unit said that the “system is so complex that we [had] to simplify as much as possible… it works in the background. You forget about it and it is your protective shield.” Spain has indicated that they are interested in testing roaming and interoperable capabilities in October.
